The Instagram "fixed 9 grid" as your strategy - yay or nay? with Deanna Seymour

Pippa talks to Deanna Seymour about fixed grids, 9 grids, 12 grids, grid magazines... we're still not sure exactly what to call them.

This year, we at The Disobedient Business® Co. finally got our fixed grid up and running as well as reorganising our Highlights on Instagram and we are loving it!

WTF is a fixed grid? It's where you generally archive all your old IG grid posts and in their place put a gorgeous 3x3 or 3x4 grid that is a catchy and eye grabbing story about who you are, what you do and how you work with people.

It's certainly not for everyone, artists might like to regularly post new works for example. But if your services stay pretty similar and you find creating for your content each week an absolute hassle then this could be 'the way'. (Yes, it might be a Mandalorian reference because yes, we are definitely on the Pedro Pascal side of TikTok 😬).

In this episode Pippa talks to Katie Skelton about the weird and wonderful world of LinkedIn.

Pippa ditched LinkedIn years ago and the idea of returning gives her the tingles and not in a good way. Can what was an icky corporate bro-y platform now be used to foster connection and sales in the small biz/ 'solopreneur' space? Well, apparently so! Katie informs us there are, in fact, actual humans in their whole human-ness on LinkedIn and you can make some seriously cool connections as well as garner some new clients and sales too.

In this week's episode, we welcome Ellie Swift who is Pippa's coach, fellow @bycacademy grad, and all-around marketing wonder.⁠ We talk to Ellie about how her and Pippa have established a very disobedient coaching relationship and touch more on what you might want to look for when researching for a business coach yourself.

What does a disobedient coaching relationship look like? One where the coach is not held out as The Answer, where the client is empowered and confident to push back, to be sovereign in their decision making, and more.⁠

We wanted to have this conversation with Ellie as she and Pippa very much have this relationship and we also know that this is not always the case, that icky stuff goes on in these relationships and we wanted to get into what this could look like where you get both results through being supported by a great coach AND you retain your integrity and values - so when something is a "no", then it's a bloody NO!

Our guest today is the brilliant and shapeshifting Vix Meldrew. Vix helps coaches, service providers, and course creators create engaging content on social media and in their programs so they can attract raving students and scale their time, income and energy.

In today's episode with Vix we explore what we've glibly called “shapeshifting” to describe the fact that Vix has in the last 6 months burned her business to the ground and rebuilt it from scratch. Well maybe not scratch, but in order to find a business model and services that work both for her and for her clients, she pared it all back and went back to her teaching roots.

Vix shares with us how it might look like an overnight change from the outside but how this was a gradual evolution over time, the fact that even as a seasoned and experienced business owner, she’s still shitting herself after 6 months but staying the course, how she’s managed the transition from focussing on Instagram to focussing more on course creation and much more.

This is a fab episode and we bloody LOVE Vix’s business disobedience and not playing by the rules – especially how she’s taking on the online course industry and supporting folks to create courses people actually learn from AND finish.
