In this episode, I explore the question: Is caregiver play really as important as we say it is?
I unpack how deeply our Western, middle-class culture intertwines play and learning—and how unusual our adult-involved, floor-sitting, block-building style of play actually is in the broader scope of human history . I challenge us to rethink what we mean by “play,” how much we’ve structured it, and whether our current expectations of caregiver involvement are universal truths or cultural values we’ve normalized.
I reflect on what play looks like across contexts, what children truly need, and how we as caregivers and professionals can approach play with more awareness and intention. References for this episode are available on Kajabi.
