Hello, and welcome back to our 31 days of calming tips. Today, I want to chat about the importance of staying connected.
If you've been through breast cancer treatment during the challenging times of COVID-19, you know how isolation can feel even more daunting. Whether you've faced hours in a chemo chair or surgeries without the support of loved ones, it's important to acknowledge that isolation's toll.
I recall my last surgery during COVID, removing my breast implants due to breast implant illness and capsular contracture. The isolation was palpable. Many of us, myself included, tend to isolate ourselves after treatment ends because it may seem like everyone else expects us to be "done."
This episode is here to tell you that the next stage of recovery starts after treatment, and staying connected is crucial.
The aftermath of breast cancer treatment can be challenging. We often isolate ourselves because we don't want to worry our loved ones or feel like a burden. Complex emotions and mental struggles are rarely discussed. Staying connected means finding people who may not share your exact journey but understand the emotional and mental complexities of breast cancer. Connecting with people who have experienced this disease can be incredibly helpful.
Watching the Netflix show "Live to 100: The Secrets of the Blue Zones" highlights the importance of social support in living a healthy, vibrant life. Blue zones are areas around the world where people live healthily to 100 and beyond. A common factor is a sense of community and social support, whether through family or friends. To lead a healthy, calm life, it's essential to find the right people to connect with—those who share your growth mindset and are part of your positive tribe.
Calm Action of the Day:
Today, I want you to take a calming action. Connect or reconnect with one friend or family member you haven't spoken to in a while. It doesn't matter if it's been a long time, and you feel awkward about it. Reach out, send a text, make a call, or send a message. Ensure that you connect with someone who uplifts you and fills your emotional cup, not someone who drains you.
Have a beautiful day, make that connection, and remember that human connection is essential. Reach out, stay connected, and experience the calm and warmth it brings. Don't forget to share your experience or connect with me on Instagram at @KarinDel34. I'd love to hear from you!
