Welcome back to "Remaining Calm Through October."
I'm Karin Del Maestro, your host, a health transformation and calmness coach, and a breast cancer and BRCA2 thriver.
In today's episode, we're diving deep into the world of finding your calm by disconnecting or limiting your social media exposure.
Let’s take a look at how disconnecting from Social Media might help you:
1.Evaluate Your Social Media Use:
- Take a good, hard, honest look at your social media habits. Examine them without judgment. Question whether mindlessly scrolling through platforms has become a way to numb your emotions or dodge the reality of how you feel. Spending hours scrolling can ramp up your anxiety and hinder your productivity.
2. Impact of Social Media on Mental Health:
- Don't underestimate the scientifically proven impact of social media on mental health. Research conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated that increased social media usage was closely linked to feelings of anxiety, depression, and inadequacy. Keep in mind that what's commonly showcased on social media represents only a highlight reel of people's lives, not the full, unfiltered picture.
3. Curate Your Online World:
- Be deliberate in choosing your online community. Unfollow or leave groups, and unfriend people who bombard you with negativity, anxiety, or overwhelm. Prioritize connections that uplift and support you, such as the "Healthy Living After Breast Cancer" Facebook community that I've created. *Calm Action of the Day:*
- Reclaim your peace by taking a break from social media for a defined period. This could be a morning, an afternoon, a whole day, or even a week, depending on the extent of your attachment to these platforms. During your social media hiatus, focus on real-life interactions and activities, such as reconnecting with friends, immersing yourself in nature, engaging in board games, enjoying a good book, or tackling a relaxing jigsaw puzzle. Notice how this break impacts your state of mind and realigns you with the essence of life.
Reclaiming your calm begins with disconnecting from social media.
This simple act can help you regain serenity, reduce anxiety, and boost your mental well-being. By reassessing and refining your social media habits and opting for a digital environment that empowers you, you'll find renewed tranquility in your everyday existence. Remember, treat yourself with the same kindness you'd extend to your best friend.
Embrace your real-life connections and relish in a day of genuine experiences. That's why I always love to connect with the women who are listening in...I want to know YOU, as a person, not just a statistic! Let's have a complimentary chat here: https://calendly.com/coach-karin/30min
