Welcome back to "Remaining Calm Through October," 31 days, 31 calming tips. These practices extend beyond October; you can revisit them whenever you need.

Today, we're diving deep into the art of practicing self-compassion. It's something we often talk about inside Thrivership School, my group coaching program.

As a breast cancer survivor, I've noticed that we tend to be kind to others but not so gentle with ourselves. Let's name and conquer that negative voice in our heads and uncover the power of kindness to find calm in our lives.

1. Confronting Negative Nancy:

We all have that inner critic, Negative Nancy, who fills our minds with self-doubt, harsh judgments, and unrealistic standards. She thrives on insecurities and old stories we've carried from childhood. These thoughts might include "I'm not good enough," "I'm so dumb," or "I'm a failure." We wouldn't say these things to our best friend, yet we say them to ourselves. But it's essential to recognize when Negative Nancy is taking residence in our heads.

2. The Power of Self-Compassion:

Let's reframe the way we speak to ourselves by treating ourselves as we'd treat our dearest friend or a child. How we treat ourselves is a signal to others on how they should treat us. Speaking kindly to ourselves boosts emotional resilience and helps us feel calmer in the face of adversity. It's a game-changer that can transform our lives.

3. Introducing Positive Pamela:

As an alternative to Negative Nancy, we invite Positive Pamela into our lives. Start noticing when she makes an appearance. Shift your self-talk and remember that you deserve the same kindness, love, and care you offer others. Shifting from Nancy to Pamela is a practice, and it takes time, but it's entirely worth it.

**Calm Action of the Day:**

Your calming action for today is to practice self-compassion. When you notice Negative Nancy invading your thoughts, kindly ask her to leave because she no longer serves you. Treat yourself with respect, love, and care just as you do with others..

Embracing self-compassion is a transformative path towards finding inner calm. Be patient with yourself as you work to shift from Negative Nancy to Positive Pamela. Remember, you matter, your self-talk matters, and you deserve the love you show to others. I'll see you in the next episode, and until then, treat yourself with kindness and watch how it changes your world. 💖🌟
